Benefits of Prototyping

prototyping

Rapid Prototyping is a process of software development wherein physical objects are automatically constructed by means of SFF or solid freeform fabrication. In the process of rapid prototyping, a prototype or working model can be constructed quickly, and tested for its functionality, performance and output. The new features or ideas can be illustrated well in the prototype and early user feedback can be gathered with regards to the product. There are numerous advantages of rapid prototyping.

Benefits of Rapid Prototyping:

Significant advantages of a Invention Prototype include reduction of project cost and risk. Generally, one or more prototypes are developed in the process of software development in a series of incremental and iterative steps. Every prototype that is manufactured is based on the previous designs’ performance and it is a corrective process through which the past design defects or problems are corrected. The product is readied for production when the prototype is refined as per requirements and meets all the design goals like manufacturability, robustness and functionality.

Another great advantage of rapid prototyping is that it finds use and application in almost all the industries. The other advantages of rapid prototyping include the following:
Visualization capabilities are enhanced in the early designing phase with use of rapid prototyping. The user gets a fair idea of how the final product will look by observing the working model in early design stage.
The design flaws can be detected before manufacture process is initiated.
Rapid prototyping enables producer and users to participate actively. Active participation between the users and producer is encouraged.
The user is able to get a higher output.
The development costs are reduced considerably, hence rapid prototyping proves to be quite cost effective.
Rapid prototyping increases the speed of system development.
With Invention Prototype , it is possible to detect deficiencies in the earlier prototype, coding activities and requirement analysis.
Rapid prototyping assists in refining the potential risks that are involved in the delivery
The different aspects of the prototype can be tried and tested and immediate feedback is possible form user.
Better communication is enabled between the users and designer as there is clear expression of requirements and expectations in the start itself.
Rapid prototyping enables easy delivery of high quality product.

Cost and Time Savings:

Savings of development time and process costs are some of the greatest advantages of rapid prototyping. Time can be saved by reducing the amount of time required to produce the prototype parts and tooling. Production costs are lowered as the mistakes regarding tooling are identified in the early stages and hence, the modification costs can be cut down in the actual production.

Advantage of Innovation:

Rapid prototyping can be used in many innovative ways. There are many firms that use rapid prototyping innovatively, hence, offering additional benefits. The advantages of rapid prototyping in innovative applications are advancement of new testing procedures and analysis, production tooling manufacture, improved communications across production departments and support of customized manufacturing. The new technologies can be used in a cost effective and successful manner with innovative applications of rapid prototyping.

Get Computer Help Online And Quickly

When you go to buy a new computer you want to know there is help out there for you when you need it. Though it will depend on who you buy from, many times you can get help from the manufacturer of the computer, or even from your Internet provider. What kind of computer help you need will determine who you can call. Most of the time your computer manufacturer will help you but you should know that if you get a virus you may be on your own. My brother found this out one day when he had to call Dell after a computer crash.

When something goes wrong you need to get computer help as soon as you can. The last thing you want is to have a broken computer and nobody to fix it. This will mean you will have to spend a lot of money to go to a computer specialist to get your machine up and running again. This type of computer help can be very expensive. The moment you think something is wrong you should stop what youíre doing, and do troubleshooting on your computer. You should have a program on your computer that will instantly scan for things that may or may not be wrong. This information will help you when you call your computerís manufacturer.

Most of the time computer help over the phone is free although this differs from company to company. Some companies will offer computer help for free no matter what, but others will only help you if you are still under warranty. This is information you may not know until you actually call for help, so it may be wise to keep your warranty information with you, or pay for an extended service deal if it is offered to you. If something is wrong with your Internet connection or with your web browser, your Internet service provider should be able to help you for free.

Remember that if you have a friend who knows how to fix computers you can save a lot of money that way, however, make sure they know what theyíre doing before you allow them to touch your computer. This type of computer help is no help at all if they do more damage. I have had many people try to help me with my computer only to mess it up more. That meant that the computer help I had to get after their bumbling ended up costing me even more. Make sure someone is qualified before you ask them for computer help.

Learning Computer Basics

My first time with a computer was in eighth grade, but we really didnít do much with them. We made greeting cards which were printed out on printers that have fallen by the wayside a long time ago. When computers became more advanced, nothing that I learned in the way of computer basics applied. Iím not even sure the Windows operating system was in use then. I learned all over again when I went to college, and thankfully, things had gotten much easier to learn since the setup I used in middle school.

Learning the basics of computers is so much easier than it ever was, and it gets easier every few years. I know this because my daughter learned to use the basic functions of one by age three. Perhaps it was just exposure, because I use one for my work, but I think it is just because the computer basics you had to know long ago are no longer valid. The machine does all of that stuff on its own. You can click on things to open programs instead of memorizing and typing in commands. Personal computers are so much more user friendly than ever before.

Opening programs and learning to use the mouse are some of the first computer basics that people learn. They must know what each one does, and mostly the functions of save and open. Those are pretty common early uses and very easy to master. When opening the Internet, computer basics would be about connecting (if necessary), finding web sites, and how to use email. Other computer basics in regards to Internet might include how to keep your computer safe from viruses and spyware. Finding and buying the right programs for these things are essential, because many basic blunders are caught with these.

You can find programs that help with computer basics are well. Some are so good that people are working things on their own, quite well, within a matter of weeks. Once the basics of running a computer are learned, the rest can be a matter of trial and error. If you are learning on your own, making mistakes and learning as you go can be very effective. It can be scary to run a computer at first, but as long as you remember that most mistakes are easily fixed, and that, for the most part, computers rarely blow up if you push the wrong button, things should go well.

CNC routers need controllers

gcode

Machine Controllers take your machining instructions from your G-Code and converts the G-Code into motion.  You are off to the races. The CNC controller reads the signal pulses from your CNC control computer and then instructs the machine to move.

The CNC Machine Controller is made up of various electrical parts.  Remember earlier that I said some electronic junkies flock to CNC.  This is why.  Machine controllers can be built if you are savvy with a soldering iron.  I myself am not.  I personally always default to ordering up a Machine Controller from one of my sources.

Controller builders to me are electronic gods.  They mix power sources, match up Amp, Volts, etc into the item I need.  Generally, you can pick the number of Axis you want before they build the controller.  For example, if you are building a CNC Machine you may want a two-axis controller.  Possibly a three-axis controller if you have a Torch Height Control.  If you have a milling machine or a wood router in mind, then a three axis is your ticket.  If you want to machine with a rotary axis, then you need a four-axis controller.  So on and so forth.

Here are some example controller prices
Here are some prices you might see in the marketplace. Most come with motors and cables as well.  Really, you purchase a whole kit at once if you go this route.Another way to do it is to buy components and assemble it yourself.  I wouldn’t suggest this for the beginner.

Prices
2 Axis – $1000–$3000 - Movement in the X and Y axis, dependent on the size of motors you order
3 Axis – $1500–$4000 - Movement in the X, Y and Z axis, dependent on the size of motors you order
4 Axis – $2000–$6000 - Movement in the X, Y, Z and A axis, dependent on the size of motors you order

Note: The A-axis is the rotational axis.  Why is it called that?I do not know.  It is also sometimes called the B-axis.  I have even heard it called the W-axis.  A-axis is the rotational axis around the X-axis. B-axis is the rotational axis around the Y-axis.

Buying a completed CNC Machine
If you purchase a CNC Router outright, it will have a machine controller as part of the package.  Everyone does it a bit different though.  Some try to make it a black box that only they can fix. Some people use common components so that you can repair the machine if need be.  You will just have to ask the manufacturer and see what they say.  My experience says they usually tell you that it uses common components that you can get anywhere if needed.  If something goes wrong, it seems you can only get the part from them.  You will have to decide.

Internal Machine Controller Parts
There are many different electrical components that go into building a CNC machine controller.  I won’t pretend that I am an expert on this. This is one of the components I buy that is already made so I don't have to do it.  If you are an electronics junkie you could build your own.I know my skills and it isn't assembling and understanding electronics.

Here is what I know about the guts of a controller.  There will be drivers.  One for each axis.  Gecko Drivers seem to be the best value on the market right now with great support.  I have used Gecko drivers in two of my creations and they work great.  Next, is a processor to do the computing work.  A power source to power the controller.  Finally the external cableling that heads out to the motors at each axis on your machine.
There is more to it than just that, and I have probably left out some parts.  Those are the basic parts of machine controllers.

CNC Control Pendants
I did not know where to put this section.  The Machining Chapter or Machine Controllers Chapter. It ended up here because the pendant is hooked to the controller.  Any pendant automatically gets a gold star from me.  I love them.  If you use one, I guarantee you will love it.

Pendants are a true lifesaver when machining.  They give you access to commonly used functions about anywhere you want them.  You can jog the machine to a new location.  You can zero out your axis with a click. You can even change your machining speeds on the fly.  All pendants are different and are usually associated with a purchased Machine Controller.

Pendants can be made.  There are a number of people out there that have pieced them together.  Generally these are the electronic types of people involved with CNC.  They like this extra challenge. Many of these homemade CNC pendants come out very nice. Many of these folks are proud of their designs and will share them with you.  The trick is finding them.

What is CNC Control

cnc controller

What is CNC Controlling

Since we are dealing with machines that do work for us, we need to control those machines somehow. We need to control them for safety reasons as well. If you give a machine improper commands it can easily get out of control and cause harm to you or the part you are machining. We want to give appropriate commands to our machines, at appropriate times so they are not "out of control".

The language that these machines use is called GCode G-code has been around since the early 60's. There are a number of variations of G-code, but most are very similar to one another. See the previous section for a sample of G-Code.

We need a computer to interact with our CNC Machine. Our computer will send signals to our CNC machine. In-between our computer and our CNC machine sits a controller. A controller converts commands into signals that are used to control the motion of our machine.

As these signals go out of the cnc controller, they go to either stepper motors or servo motors. This is how we get motion. These cnc motors drive our various axis on our machine. While we are moving our axis, there is generally a cutting tool of some sort removing material. This is the machining process coupled with CNC.

Here is a brief description of the two types of motors generally used in CNC:
Stepper motors:
Simple design
Very easy to use
Generate torque at low rpm
Do not know their position in relation to the program

Servo Motors:
Generate torque at high RPMs
Generally need gearing of some sort to be effective
More sophisticated
Can maintain their relative position, thus, they can be more accurate

Machine Controllers
Controllers generally stand alone near the CNC machine. They act as a translator between your control computer and your CNC machine. Generally, they add quite a bit of cost to a CNC machine as well. Controllers can cost anywhere from $1000-$20,000 or more depending on their sophistication.

Atomic Clock Thermometer: Telling A Lot More Than The Time Of Day

Most people are aware of the fact that atomic clocks are able to provide the most accurate time and they are able to do so because of measuring time through keeping track of vibrations within certain atoms. A special kind of atomic clock that has recently found many buyers is the atomic clock thermometer that can provide accurate readings about current temperature and even humidity levels, and of course, can also provide the most accurate time as well.

Helps Travelers

One of the reasons that atomic clock thermometers are very popular is that they help travelers know the time, temperature as well as humidity and that in turn means being able to dress according to conditions in the outdoors. There are different types of atomic clock thermometers and among these are those that work without needing any wires to connect the thermometer or hygrometer or even the barometer.

You can use an atomic clock thermometer to measure the temperature within a home or outside the home and such clocks can also display relative humidity and air pressure as well as show pressure trends. Some models of the atomic clock thermometer also have UV sensors that help to display the quality of indoor air and will also provide information about pollen dust as well as other forms of airborne matter.

If you like, you can choose to buy an atomic clock thermometer that can be mounted on a wall or you may want to choose one that stands on its own. Such clocks also have their own menu (interactive) that displays information regarding rainfall in the previous hour and even in the past twenty-four hours, and it can also show history of rainfall during the week gone by as well as for the last month.

It is also possible to buy an atomic clock thermometer that can also provide information about the speed and direction as well as gust of wind and they can also display various symbols signifying various weather conditions including sunny weather, cloudy weather, fair weather and rainy weather.

It is also possible to connect an atomic clock thermometer to a personal computer in order to gather information regarding weather conditions, which can then be analyzed as well as studied to obtain more insights about the weather in your immediate vicinity.

Another option in atomic clocks is the world atomic clock that provides you with the most accurate time no matter in which part of the world you happen to be.

Some advanced atomic clock thermometers are even capable of predicting snowfall or fog or even frost and they even have alarm systems which can be pre-set to different temperatures – both for within the home as well as without it.

Plasma TV Technology - A Means Of Bringing Life To Images

Thanks to the latest plasma TV technology, the prices of flat screen television have dropped in a dramatic fashion to say the least. Also thanks to guidelines issued by the government, broadcast programming will soon be in digital format and with the current mixture of TV technologies providing plasma TV technology, the are now ready for the final conversion from analog to digital.

Ever since the year 1964, the utilization of plasma monitors has enabled the initial dots of monochrome to be viewed on a monitor. In 1999, the first full colored plasma monitor was debuted and thanks to plasma TV technology the images being presented on the screens have just become sharper and more lifelike as the years progress onwards.

In today's plasma TV technology you get the ability to view  widescreen video on 4:3 ratio monitors, through the process of clipping the images. In this way, the viewer doesn't see the total frame.

In television sets that were older, the picture ratio was 4:3; in contrast to what is shown in movie theaters of 13:9 and the whole image is able to be viewed on the screen. With the latest plasma TV technology, the images are broadcast or sent out in 13:9 ratio and the entire image is able to be presented and viewed on screen.

Nevertheless, a signal that is received in the 4:3 aspect ratio, is still capable of being viewed through the technology that is being used by today's newer television sets. There are some of the older TV's that would stretch the image at the top which would end up creating a distortion as it attempts to fill the whole screen while today's newer monitors will utilize a correcting algorithm to calculate the biggest size of the image and then do a scaling of the overall image to then fit it to the available screen.

Constant Improvement Gives Brighter Viewing Entertainment

Through the use of plasma TV technology the images on screen are much sharper, clearer as well as more colorful than ever before. Nevertheless, regardless of the amount of quality of the plasma TV as well as the price that you paid for it, if the signal that is input is in the format of analog or only capable of being shown in enhanced video, there will be no discernable difference in the quality of the picture.

Even in the case of today's satellite TV services, which is broadcasting all of the signals through high definition, if the program that is originating it is sent to the satellite services is not in the format of high definition, the signal that is eventually received in the home will have an odd resemblance to the older images that were in analog.

In spite of all of the high technology advances in plasma TV technology, in addition to the falling prices, numerous individuals are hesitant to welcome the high-end types of units because of the availability or lack thereof of high definition signals in some locations of the country.

One of the minor drawbacks with plasma TV technology is the sizes of the monitors that are available. The majority of manufacturers only make them to about the 42 inch screen range, which leaves the smaller size units to the LCD industry in the flat panel market.

Plasma TV Buying Guides - Making The Right Informed Buying Decision

Depending on the people that you talk to, there are specific aspects of plasma TV's that need to be checked out before coming to a final buying decision. One of the common mistakes that numerous potential purchasers end up making is in researching and reading through various plasma TV buying guides and then coming to a decision as to what they want. A good starting point is for you to list all the things you are looking for in your new television set and at that point you should take that information that is available in the plasma TV buying guides to locate the one that matches your list.

To start with, you are going to need to know the amount that you can afford to spend because there are numerous different types of models out there with functions that are similar that also vary in their prices. In some instances, one or two features might need to be overlooked in exchange for a better priced unit. Even then, wait to go through the plasma TV buying guides, you have other considerations to dwell on prior looking at your options.

Another important factor is the type of input that your television has as there are some plasmas that do not have the right connection for your needs. Even though a set-top box will enable you to get cable hooked up, by getting a cable ready set with your plasma TV you will save an extra monthly fee on the box from the cable company. Also take a look at the types and quantity of the inputs that are available on the different types of models that are within your price range for CD players, DVD players, games and even an old VCR if you happen to have one.

Make No Assumption That Prices Equals Quality

It is basically understood that plasma television costs are higher than the majority of other types of monitors. Even though this might be true to a certain extent, the prices have come down substantially in recent years and some now equal the costs of LCD televisions. In the majority of cases, a unit that is priced higher might have additional features, but the plasma TV buying guides can furnish you with the right information in regards to what is available with newer plasma monitors.

Does the plasma unit come with back light capability, normally found with LCD televisions or does it have the capacity to connect up to your newer surround sound system, are some of the considerations that you will want to check out in the plasma TV buying guides. In addition, are there mounting brackets for both ceiling or wall mounts incorporated or do they have to be bought as an addition separately?

Once you have gone through your plasma TV buying guides and have purchased the unit that has all the options bells and whistles etc., that you were looking for in a new television, and the cost is around your price point to your budget, you can start to look for an outlet for your new monitor.

Learn about the basics of Brass Casting, types of Brass Casting, and the process of Brass Casting

Metal Casting

Brass Metal Casting , as the name suggests, involves the use of brass as the molten metal. Brass casting can be carried out by the way of sand Metal Casting only. Sand casting can be defined as a ‘cast part’ produced by formation of a mold from a mixture of sand and pouring the casting liquid (mostly molten metal) into mold. Then the air-cooling of the mold takes place. After the solidification of metal, the removal of mold takes place. The metal used here is brass. It is a known fact that brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Hence, to be precise, the molten metal consists of two elements.

Sand molding consists of two types- ‘Green sand’ molding and ‘air set’ molding. The first one consists of a blend of moisture, clay, silica sand and other additives. The second one makes use of dry sand bonded to all the above materials except moist clay, by the way of using an adhesive, which is fast curing.

At times, there is a placing of a temporary plug (in the mold cavity) to enable the formation of a channel to pour the fluid which is to be molded. The molds of the second type, i.e. Because the molds are air set, what you get out of that is a two part mold. The two parts are bottom and top. The tamping-down of the sand mixture takes place as it gets added. Many a times, the final assembly of the mold is vibrated to get the sand compacted and get the unwanted voids filled. Then the molten alloy (brass) gets poured into mold. After the solidification and cooling of brass, the separation of casting from sand mold takes place. Normally, such molds are one-time usable.

Metal Casting Patterns: These are made by a desinger whom the engineer has given the design for the object that will be made. On the basis of this design, a pattern is built by an efficient pattern maker by the use of plastic, metal, or wood. Polystryene is another good choice and can aslo be used. The casting brass would get contracted during solidification. Non-uniformity can also result out of this. Therefore, the size of the pattern should be a bit larger as compared to the final product. ‘Contraction Allowance’ is the name given to this difference. Brass enters the mold cavity through a runner system including sprue and other feeders.

Molding box: A molding box having multiple parts (also known as casting flask whose bottom and top halves are called drag and cope respectively) is constructed for receiving the pattern. There may be an addition of sand to nullify the defects introduced due to the pattern getting removed.

Chills: To have a proper control over metallurgical structure and solidification of brass, plates of brass, or any other metal can be placed in mold. Its at these particular spots that a very hard structure may be formed. Chills can be used for promoting directional solidification as well.

Design Requirements: The thing in making and the pattern corresponding to it should be designed in such a way that every stage of process can get accommodated. One should be able to take away the pattern without causing any disturbance to molding sand.
