Product Review of CloudBackup by OPENRSM
Product Review - Online Backup - OPENRSM CloudBackup
Â
Overview:
OPENRSM CloudBackup is a service that lets you store files and backup data securely to a nearly unlimited remote backup storage vault. Unlike competitors, OPENRSM has CloudBackup engineered to scale from minimal to massive with no restrictions. You pay a flat fee (which get's you a BIG datastore) and only pay extra for the actual storage you use in excess of that. Â It works the same on Windows, MAC, and Linux systems as well.
You can access the CloudBackup drive as a network disk or with the local web server.), over WebDav or via the local http server. Â CloudBackup keeps a local cache that allows most operations to be instantaneous with any changes being made in the background. The builtin backup utility works well and previous versions are kept if desired. This makes CloudBackup suitable for backup as well as temporary file storage, or as a remote filesystem for collaborative work. Â Block level incremental backup is supported through CloudBackup.
Cool Features
- New Intuitive User Interface
- Support for connecting to multiple data stores at the same time
- Support for multiple backup jobs with independent scheduling
- Highly configurable bandwidth limiting
- Identical Features and Interface on Windows, MAC, and Linux
- Download verification and in-application reporting
- Unlimited number of computers with a single account
Who it's for:
Due to the power of OPENRSM CloudBackup, you can use it as a VPN Drive and more (in addition to online backup. The interface is easy to use and the setup is a snap compared to most other programs. But, CloudBackup delivers features that all users (even newbies) can use for safe, secure backup and accessing files remotely without being restricted like other similar products do. Â Or, like me… BOTH. For example: All files, folders, data is in full view. Just like having an unlimited sized SAN. You can simply set it, forget it, and let the scheduler backup any changed files over the internet (encrypted of course).
Â
The Good:
Set it and forget it backups. Set it up to run regular backups and you'll have no more worries about the lifespan of your harddisk or the safety of data. Small bandwidth usage. It only updates changed bytes (instead of entire files) and buffers it with it's internal cache. Â So bandwidth use is limited after the first backup. Controllable with ease. Options settings for limiting bandwidth, saving previous versions, and detailed logging. You can get dirty if you want but I hardly ever needed to access the manual. Works with your applications and system. The network drive can be used like any other local volume… Just unlimited in size. I use Access, wikipad, and other programs to use the data files directly off the network drive and it works perfectly. It's great for storing your QuickBooks backups, etc. to it., to use the Network Drive. And it doesn't make any difference if you have a PC, a MAC, or a Linux machine (or a whole network of them)… CloudBackup just works.
Â
Possible Downers
Depends on your internet connection. Inherent to CloudBackup is your broadband connection. If you have restriced use limits on your broadband connection then your first backup might push it.But you can make it backup whenever is best and limit bandwith too. But the upload bandwidth controls and efficient use of that bandwidth renders this a nonissue. It has to be said I guess I'm always open to do nearly the same for cheaper or free.  But  CloudBackup is very cost effective and it's feature set surpasses other more expensive providers.
Â
Why I think you need it:
It's the best solution for remote access to your documents, photos, and files while providing painless backup.  Together it's a killer combination. Add the extreme flexibility and I heartily recommend this with no qualms. Paying a small monthly fee to have his peace of mind is worth it for me.
How it Stacks Up:
- OPENRSM CloudBackup has more space and reliability than a local backup.
- Files are still available for all programs with full capability unlike other solutions.
- The backup functionality works as good as local backup solutions.
- Your own backup or sync software can still be used even if you don't really need to since the backup intervals can be set from every five minutes to once a week.
Â
Conclusions:
CloudBackup is an inexpensive, flexible, powerful, and reliable data storage solution which can be used for many purposes. I must reccommend this unless you have unreasonable restrictions on your internet connection. Other services that do less for less money, but I havn't found anything like that. OPENRSM's CloudBackup has made my work and home computer work better.
